Psalm 46: God is Exalted

Several weeks into the coronavirus pandemic and a few days into being told that Dallas was placed under a shelter-in-place mandate and I felt my anxiety rising. Seeing some of the grocery store aisles completely empty was the beginning. Hearing about the increased lock-down measures was the catalyst. Yet, God has been ever faithful to calm my heart through Psalm 46, and I thought it would be good to take some time to work through that in the hope that it provides myself and others some much needed encouragement and stability. Psalm 46: Peace, Stability, and the Sovereignty of God

Things with the coronavirus have certainly not gone the way I had hoped. Maybe I was overly optimistic, but I hoped and prayed that we would have a minor lockdown for a couple weeks to reduce the infection rate enough for hospitals to keep up and then we’d be back to life as normal. Only a week in to this “social distancing” concept and Dallas is already being moved to a state of “shelter in place.” Staying home and not going anywhere unless absolutely necessary. In the middle of all of this Psalm 46 has pressed more into my heart than ever before, and I thought it would be good to take some time to work through that in the hope that it provides myself and others some much needed encouragement and stability. Still Waters

I wasn’t ever a huge fan of the Psalms growing up. It’s not like I hated them or thought them worthless or anything like that, because they’re just as inspired as the rest of Scripture, but I just didn’t understand them. Partly because it’s poetry and poetry just isn’t as straightforward as other forms of literature. But mostly because it seemed like every popular verse from Psalms seemed like it was pulled from la la land and put on some coffee cup to make people feel better.
