Loss, Redemption, and Becoming Untrue

I’ve been writing on Holy Week this past week, and I wanted to actually be able to write something about Easter, too. I sat down earlier today to try to write about the resurrection, and hope fulfilled. I wanted to write something about God doing the unexpected in times of trouble, and walking with us when we don’t even know it’s Him. But I couldn’t write that today.

The Gates of Hell, Holy Saturday, and King Jesus

I was a 90’s kid. I mean, that was the first decade when I could really comprehend music. Things may have been a little different, but here’s what I remember: my mom made me listen to KLTY in the car everywhere we went when I was a kid/teenager, as a teenager I was exposed to Christian Rock because my amazing youth pastor was the co-host of the dearly missed Lighthouse 21 radio show on 89.7 Power FM, and then some time in the 2000’s I started listening to U2, thanks to the friendship and musical/spiritual guidance of the Discipleship Pastor of the church I attended. So, I guess you can say I’ve experienced a progressive revelation of God’s common grace of what good music really is. Now, you’re probably asking what any of this has to do with Holy Saturday.

Redefining Marriage and Good Friday Implications

My heart has been heavy this Holy Week. I’m sure yours has, too. The courts are hearing about whether they should redefine marriage. There have been a whirlwind of blogs, quick-witted Tweets, and well-thought articles surrounding this issue. In all of this, I see the darkness. The darkness that brings us the reason for today, Good Friday. Yet, I see the darkness in my own heart more than anything going on out there.

On Remembrance

This week is Holy Week. Today is Maundy Thursday, from the Latin for “mandatum” (commandment), for when Christ gave us a new command: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34). When Christ sat with his friends and drank wine with his brothers. And gave a different commandment as he broke bread with his betrayer.
