Don’t Waste Your Parenthood

I’m sure I’ve mentioned how completely bonkers (in a good way) my life has been lately in several of my recent posts, but as part of the craziness entails not writing anywhere near frequently as I’d like, I’ll sum up really quick for you: In the span of close to a year and a half I met the woman whom I would marry, got engaged, got married, found out that Angela was pregnant about four months after we got married, and then had the little man a couple weeks after our first anniversary.

Give Grace in Disagreement

This past year has seen much controversy in the Church. From Rob Bell’s book, Love Wins, to Jefferson Bethke’s viral video, Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus, to Pastor Mark Driscoll’s latest book, Real Marriage. Some of the reviews and blogs I’ve read have been fair, charitable, and accurate. Some have driven me to the point of absolute frustration, wondering what non-Christians think of such hostility toward a fellow Christian.

It interests me how whenever we read a story in Scripture, our first question is “What does this say about us?” when the whole of Scripture claims that the story of Redemption says much more about God than it does about humanity. To be sure, we need to ask that question, but we first need to ask “What does this say about Christ and the Gospel?”

Living Sent

This post is no less than a shameless plug for one of my friends, Ashley Sellars, who is going on a missions trip in a few weeks. Ashley will be leaving in January for a 6-12 month trip (or possibly longer) in Danja, Niger to “serve [as a nurse] and help the ladies who are suffering with Obstetric Fistulas” at a new hospital recently built by The Worldwide Fistula Fund.

Secret Church on Sexuality and Gender Roles

Dating. Marriage. Divorce. Pornography. Polygamy. Manhood. Womanhood. Adoption. Abortion. These are some of the toughest topics that today’s generation is wrestling to define. Those who contend for a more conservative view are seen as closed-minded, intolerant, and oppressive. Those who contend for a liberal view are seen as scandalous, immoral, and militant about their rights. There is something much bigger at stake in all of this though. It isn’t about personal freedoms or academic definitions or philosophical distinctions. It’s about the gospel.
