Life: Unmasked – The Beauty of a World Turned Upside Down

Life: UnmaskedIn an effort to become more authentic in the blog, I’ve started doing something new, and joined Joy, a new writer I’ve come to know, in sharing about life: unmasked. I’m grateful for Joy’s allowing me to participate in this blog meme, and look forward to sharing some of my struggles, questions, and failures.

Yesterday, as part of a giveaway that Aaron Armstrong is doing, I was asked this question:

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?

My answer:

The Christmas when I was 11…I don’t remember anything about it other than that my parents were together, and my world hadn’t been turned upside down. The Christmas when I was 27, when I realized that all the Christmases since I was 12 were times of God actively shaping me into who He wants me to be, despite the effects of sin (both my own and those done to me) in my life. I am thankful that God turns 11 year old boy’s worlds upside down to make the gospel real to them.

As we reflect on Advent, the time when God most visibly broke into our sense of reality, we also need to reflect on the times when God breaks into our sense of reality today. Most often in ways we wouldn’t expect, and sometimes in ways we don’t want.
