A Gospel-Centered Approach to Reading Scripture

It interests me how whenever we read a story in Scripture, our first question is “What does this say about us?” when the whole of Scripture claims that the story of Redemption says much more about God than it does about humanity. To be sure, we need to ask that question, but we first need to ask “What does this say about Christ and the Gospel?”

I’ve always loved how Pastor Matt Chandler communicates this difference when in relation to David and Goliath, and I’m grateful for Trevin Wax posting this short video on his blog.

We aren’t the hero of the story, Christ is. Reflecting on this more often should stir our affections for Christ, and fill our hearts with gratitude in response to Him killing the giant that we could never kill.
